What Is Title 1?

TITLE I

Title I is a program designed to help students served by the program to achieve proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards.

Statement of Purpose

Family engagement strengthens schools and communities

Family Engagement TIPS

· Use on-going communication with your student’s teacher to monitor academic success.

· Help your student by monitoring homework for completeness and check with your student to be sure it’s returned on a timely basis back to class.

· Participate as a volunteer in your student’s class, school, or on a district committee or parent group.

· Utilize TUSD Family Centers for training and orientation about volunteering in school, or at the district level or in the family centers.

· Be an advocate and ask questions to help your student be successful in school and in handling difficult situations.

ANNUAL TITLE I MEETING

Parents and the community are invited each year to meet and review Title I academic services and to ask questions to promote two-way communication and talk about ideas for improving student learning

· District Integrated Action Plan information is shared

· Curriculum and Assessment tools are discussed

· Proficiency Levels are explained

· Family Engagement services are provided through monthly distribution

of family center Flyers/Calendar

TITLE I ANNUAL ASSESSMENT

· Each year parents and staff review the effectiveness of this policy as it aligns to Title I objectives, and Unitary Status Plan requirements.

· Parents are encouraged to give input regarding the Title I District Integrated Action Plan and the Title I budget.

STRENGTHENING PARENT CAPACITY TO SUPPORT STUDENT LEARNING

·Welcoming Every Family and Student

Each family center welcomes families by text, Facebook, district website and through other social media as well as in person.

·Communicating Effectively

Parents are informed of activities at the family centers using a phone application called “Parent Link”, Facebook and the TUSD website. Parents will be invited to share their ideas for communicating and workshop topics.

·Speaking Up for Every Student

It is the right and responsibility of parents to support their student.

·Supporting Student Academic Success

Family Centers offer strategies for parents to help their child in math, reading, writing development, and college and career readiness.

·Sharing Power and Responsibility

Parents can take a leadership role by participating in school council

-a school decision making body; parent teacher organizations and other parent groups and committees.

·Collaborating with the Community

Family Centers inform parents of services and community resources for improving student learning.


LANGUAGE ACCESSIBILITY

Interpretation services will be provided in different languages when advance notice is given to the Language Acquisition Department, Title I under the Grants & Federal Programs Office.

1. Parents are expected to monitor student learning using Parental Access Page

2. Parents are asked to attend parent teacher conferences and at least one site council meeting each year

3. Parents are encouraged to learn more about advanced learning experiences to establish high expectations

4. Parents are valued partners in the education of their students
